Steve Nunn Cempa Jutsu Karate 2nd Dan Nidan Instructor
Steve started his Karate training at Stratford karate kai in1975, and felt very lucky he had managed to get in. The Karate club at that time had 30 to 40 students at every class.
Steve trained under the guidance of Mick Hawkins, the style was Kyukoshinkai, and other instructors included Mick Knowles , Greg Wallace and Tony Price. In 1976 Steve’s attention turned to Ishinryu, and started training at the Wood lane Dojo in Rush Green. The chief instructor was Ticky Donovan other instructors included Will Verner and Tyrone White.
1977 having moved out the area Steve then trained at Ockendon Shotokan Karate club The instructors were Alex Whylie and Steve Lary. Steve found it hard to change from ishinryu to shotokan and soon returned to the ishinryu system in a local club located in Grays. Steve continued training for another two years under the instruction of Eric Thornton and Moira Barbra, but Started to ask himself question, is this it, is karate just punching and kicking..?
Steve continued training but drifted in and out of karate trying different types of martial arts looking for something to re-spark his interest, including boxing/Ju jutsu and judo but somehow Steve could just not rekindle the passion or motivation to progress further.
After spending a lot of wasted time drifting in and out of karate. Like so many other karateka and becoming some what disillusioned with regards to the purpose of why he had learnt all these new skills...? What happens next?
The years passed quick, but karate always stayed in Steve’s thoughts,
In 1999 Steve met Allen Tottman chief instructor of Cempa jutsu karate. After introducing himself was made to feel very welcome and started training. In a very short time Steve realized this training was a lot different from what he had been doing in previous years
